Value of MLA and APA

To be totally honest, I have only dealt with MLA format. In high school that was the only style we used. It has helped me with my papers in college because it kind of comes as second nature because I'm so used to having to use it. I do think that they are both important because you need a certain type of structure when you're writing your essays. If there was no format to use, then everybody's essays wouldn't look uniform and it would probably throw the teacher off a little because it might be too much. For example, I know some people like to underline or bold their titles and you aren't supposed to do that in MLA. I also know that some people try to make their essays seem longer by making the font bigger and with MLA, the font size has to 12, and the font itself has to be Times New Roman. I was guilty of that before I was told to use MLA, but I'm glad I stopped because it honestly took away from my essay. It made it seem corny.
